INTERNATIONAL BACCALAUREATE

AND THE PYP PROGRAMME

The IBO (International Baccalaureate Organisation) out of Geneva, Switzerland offers three programmes: the Diploma Programme for students in the final two years of secondary school, the Middle Years Programme for students aged 11 to 16, and the Primary Years Programme for students aged 3 to 12. La Quinta High School is authorized and offers the Diploma Programme. John Glenn Middle School is authorized and offers the Middle Years Programme. Amelia Earhart Elementary School of International Studies and Ben Franklin Elementary School are authorized and offer the International Baccalaureate (IB) Primary Years Programme (PYP).

The Primary Years Programme (PYP), for students aged 3 to 12, focuses on the development of the whole child in the classroom and also in the world outside. The programme offers a framework that meets children's needs including: academic, social, physical, emotional and cultural. There is an opportunity for learners to construct meaning, principally through concept-driven inquiry. Traditional academic subjects are part of the programme interrelatedness of knowledge and skills. A transdisciplinary programme of inquiry is emphasized.

For more information about the PYP Programme, please contact the IB Coordinator, Jennifer Lindsay.
