History of Amelia Earhart

The History of Amelia Earhart Elementary

Amelia Earhart Elementary School for International Studies opened on September 4, 2001 and was authorized as an International Baccalaureate (IB) World School in February, 2005. We are very proud to be formally authorized as an IB Primary Years Programme school; we were the first public elementary school in California to acquire this authorization. In addition to the regular curriculum required by the state and district, each grade level writes six units of inquiry based on the six themes handed down by the International Baccalaureate Organisation: Who We Are, Where We Are in Place and Time, How We Express Ourselves, How the World Works, How We Organize Ourselves and How We Share the Planet. Portfolios of student work are kept from Kindergarten to 5th grade, and at the end of 5th grade, the students complete a personal project or Exhibition, going in depth into a subject of their choice.

Amelia Earhart is a magnet/choice school with the student population comprised of neighborhood students as well as students from within the Desert Sands school district chosen to attend through a lottery process. Our school educates students attending Transitional Kindergarten through Fifth Grade.
